Information for New Members
The Board of Directors, Management and Staff welcome you to Community First Curling Centre home of Soo Curlers Association. Here is some information that we hope will make your experience at our club more enjoyable.
The Soo Curling Club was established in the late 1800s and officially registered as Soo Curlers Association, a non-profit corporation on December 12, 1944. Our present building was constructed in 1966 and offers an eight-sheet curling facility.
Membership Privileges & Amenities
League Play: You may curl in the league(s) for which you paid your membership.
Sparing: You may spare without cost in any league three times during the year.
Practice Ice: Should be listed on the calendar each week or check with the office for availability.
Rules of Play: We subscribe to the rules of Curling Canada and the Northern Ontario Curling Association. Please be ready to start your game on time.
Cancelling Your Game: If you must cancel your game, you MUST inform your opposition as early as possible. You should also inform the club. Games can be re-scheduled as ice time allows.
Decision Making: Soo Curlers Association is a member-driven organization with an elected Board of Directors answerable to the membership.
Member Contact – Soo Curlers Association will send mass emails sharing current club information.
Website – www.soocurlers.com will be maintained and updated often. It will contain schedules and upcoming events.

Access to the Ice Arena: Access is limited to the doors behind sheet 1 and sheet 8. The doors behind sheets 4 and 5 are used to exit the ice.
Clean Footwear: Clean footwear must be worn at all times on the ice arena and as much as possible in the areas leading to the ice surface. A shoe cleaner is located as you enter the ice surface behind sheets 1 and 8.
On ice Water: Potable water is available from two water machines located on the back boards behind sheets 3 and 6.
What sheet do I curl on? The allocation of league ice is indicated on league schedules located on bulletin boards in the locker rooms and on the web site.
Bonspiel Information: Information on out-of-town bonspiels is located on the bulletin board in the Mezzanine behind sheet 2.
Instruction: A curling clinic is usually held in the fall and there is a small fee.
Viewing Area: There are two viewing areas, one at the Mezzanine level and on at the Lounge level.
Locker Rooms and Washrooms
Lockers are assigned when you pay your membership. There is a fee for Associate and school curlers and are subject to availability.
Locker Rooms: The lady’s locker room is located to the left off the lobby just past the office. The men’s locker room is located to the right off the lobby just past the Pro Shop.
Washrooms: The women’s washroom are adjacent to the locker room. The men’s washrooms can be accessed from the lobby just before the Pro Shop or from the locker room.
Food & Beverage
Bar: Is located on the Lounge level and is sure to have your favorite beverage.
Restaurant: Is located on the Lounge level and is open most days and evenings. Our cooks are exceptional and provide daily specials. It is also available for luncheon and dinner rentals or for social or business events.
Ice and/or Lounge Rentals: Members may rent for reduced fees. Available for business or social functions.
Parking & Transit
Lots of parking is available onsite to the west and east of the building. Please DO NOT park between the roped areas in the entrance driveway.
Bus service is frequent from the downtown terminal to the corner of North St. and Northern Ave. and return to the terminal from the Northern Ave. and Kitchener Road corner.
Broom Rentals – We rent brooms per game and these are available at the bar or restaurant. Members are encouraged to purchase their own equipment so the above-mentioned equipment is available for rentals.
Pro Shop – We host a full-service curling equipment shop, located in the lobby and open to all members as well as the public. We stock shoes, brooms, sliders, pants, stop watches, all your curling needs.
Curling Instruction - We are pleased to have “Olympic Gold Medalist” Brad Jacobs as our curling specialist. He provides an 8-week adult “Learn to Curl Program” on Wednesday evenings as well as instruction for groups and individuals subject to his availability. He also instructs a youth “Learn to Curl Program” every Wednesday after school.
Staff & Member Partnership
The Staff at Soo Curlers is all seasonal. We are always available to help make your curling experience better. Our staff includes Managers, Ice Techs, Office, Pro Shop, Restaurant and Bar.
Volunteering: Soo Curlers Association hosts many activities during the season for which we require help. Your commitment of time is greatly appreciated. Please check the bulletin board outside the office for the latest opportunities.
